Introduction

Must a blog describe the person who writes it? Maybe, but if so, this blog will defy that convention. I will not try to tell you who I am or what I do. Perhaps you as reader would be interested in that, but I as the writer am not.

We are not what we do. We are not what we have done. We are not what we own or love or hate. By convention, we sometimes agree to confine ourselves to those as elements of identity, but that seems like such a trap. Life is a series of perceptions. Memory is not a record, but a narrative told after the fact. We do what we do because of emotions, and later attach explanation in the form of words.

Yet, look in the eyes of a dog. Watch it move through the world. A dog too has emotions which guide. Intuitively, does it not seem that a dog’s feelings are the same as a human’s? You cannot deny this, because you can see also the feelings of a human who does not speak. When we look at another human being, we see them as the same because of their eyes, their movements, their expressions, and we do this before or without words.

Our intuition of humanity is not based on words at all, but a blog is nothing but words. Hence, a blog cannot capture life. There is no point in narrating personal history or apologizing for identity. Therefore, I will not.

Let this be nothing but words as things in themselves. If you as the reader choose to infer an identity for me, then I will be flattered, but not fooled and not confined.

What I will write about are fun hobbies that I enjoy such as programming, gaming and art. It would gratify me if you enjoy what I write, but I will make little effort to learn whether you read at all.

Cheers!

Spawning

My introduction to Minecraft came through a friend who clearly loved the game. He showed me the vast landscapes he had explored, the tunnels he had carved through the Nether, and the bases he had already built. It was obvious how much enjoyment he found in it, and I could tell that for me the experience would be even more addictive than it was for him. As an engineer who delights in building systems and structures, I knew at once that Minecraft’s mix of exploration, survival, and creation would consume me.
